Brahman Cattle in Germany? Yes, and Thriving.

Nando Hauck ABBA International Director & Breeder – Germany

When most people think of Brahman cattle, they imagine the heat and humidity of the southern United States or the expansive ranches of South America. But did you know that Brahman cattle are also thriving in Germany?

At HO Cattle Company, located in the heart of Germany, you’ll find Nando Hauck, one of four International Directors of the American Brahman Breeders Association, proudly raising and promoting American Brahman cattle.

Recently, HO Cattle Company had the honor of hosting a group of 52 students, professors, and researchers from some of Europe’s leading universities—including Vienna (Austria), Zurich (Switzerland), and Goettingen (Germany). The delegation shared a common academic focus on livestock breeding, development, and innovation.

The visit was part of a broader initiative aimed at studying genetic improvement, adaptability, and the global applications of cattle breeds. The Brahman’s well-known strengths—heat tolerance, disease resistance, and longevity—are gaining increased interest among European livestock experts exploring solutions for sustainability and climate adaptation.

This event not only highlighted the utility of Brahman genetics in non-traditional environments, but also underscored the breed’s growing reputation across the globe. As breeders and scientists continue to collaborate internationally, the future of the Brahman breed is expanding well beyond its traditional borders.

International Travel

April 2025, Expo Rodeo Neuland – Chaco, Paraguay

In April 2025, Brandon Cutrer represented ABBA as the official judge at Expo Rodeo Neuland in Chaco, Paraguay. This highly anticipated event brought together breeders and ranchers from across the region to exhibit top-tier Brahman cattle. Mr. Cutrer’s expertise and sharp eye for breed quality played a key role in evaluating the impressive lineup of animals, ensuring a fair and professional show.

Paraguay has long placed significant value on American Brahman genetics, and this year’s results reflected that commitment—with both the Champion Bull and Champion Female sired by U.S. bulls. Mr. Cutrer’s presence not only elevated the event but also reinforced ABBA’s strong international presence and ongoing dedication to promoting U.S. genetics and supporting breeders throughout Latin America.

April 2025, Muestra Internacional de Ganado Cebú – Tampico, Mexico

In April 2025, Stuart Watkins had the honor of judging the Muestra Internacional de Ganado Cebú in Tampico, Mexico—an event that continues to be a cornerstone for Cebú breeders across the country. The show brought together leading cattlemen and women to present some of the best Brahman genetics in the region. Mr. Watkins’ deep knowledge of the breed and consistent judging standards were well appreciated by both exhibitors and organizers.

His participation highlighted ABBA’s continued commitment to supporting international shows and sharing American Brahman expertise abroad. Events like this play a vital role in strengthening breeder relationships and expanding the global reach of U.S. Brahman genetics.

ABBA Members Visit the Philippines to Promote Brahman Cattle

In April 2025, ABBA Secretary-Treasurer Carolyn Falgout, along with ABBA members Primo and Daniela Castillo of Rancho Las Huastecas, traveled to the Philippines to represent the Brahman breed and share the value of Brahman genetics in tropical environments.

Although this trip was not funded through U.S. Livestock Genetics Export (USLGE) funds, it served as an important opportunity to promote the adaptability and advantages of the Brahman breed abroad. During their visit, Mrs. Falgout delivered a presentation highlighting Brahman cattle’s renowned heat tolerance, as well as the benefits of crossbreeding and hybrid vigor in improving productivity and sustainability in tropical and subtropical climates.

The group also participated in several ranch visits, where they had the opportunity to learn more about local production systems and engage directly with Filipino cattle producers. Unlike in some countries where show cattle are more common, the Philippine cattle industry is largely commercial in nature—making the efficiency and adaptability of Brahman cattle especially relevant and attractive to producers in the region.

ABBA extends a special thank-you to Mr. Billy Badilla, ABBA International Director, and Mr. Martin Gomez, former president of the Brahman Association in the Philippines for their efforts in organizing the trip and graciously hosting the group throughout their stay. Their commitment to strengthening ties between ABBA and the Philippine cattle industry played a key role in the success of this visit.

There is a growing interest in the Philippines for continued education and support to improve local cattle operations. ABBA hopes to return in the future to continue fostering this relationship and to provide additional resources that will help producers maximize the benefits of Brahman genetics.

July 2025, Expo Brahman – San Benito, Petén, Guatemala

In July 2025, ABBA Executive Vice President Paul Maulsby and Office Manager Iridiana Ibarra attended Expo Brahman in San Benito, Petén, Guatemala. The event served as an important gathering for Brahman breeders across Central America and featured both educational and social components that encouraged international collaboration.

During the event, Mr. Maulsby delivered a well-received presentation on heat tolerance in Brahman cattle, with translation provided by Ms. Ibarra. Their participation provided an excellent opportunity to engage with breeders and representatives from Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua, strengthening relationships and reinforcing ABBA’s presence in the region.

Expo Brahman 2025 was not only a showcase of high-quality cattle, but also a valuable occasion to promote U.S. genetics and continue ABBA’s mission of international outreach and breeder education.

July 2025, EXPOGAN ECUADOR – Santo Domingo, Ecuador

In July 2025, Dr. Craig Fontenot represented ABBA as the official judge at EXPOGAN ECUADOR, held in Santo Domingo. This prestigious event brought together some of the finest Brahman cattle and most respected breeders in Ecuador, showcasing the country’s ongoing dedication to genetic improvement and breed excellence. Dr. Fontenot’s extensive experience and commitment to breed standards made him an excellent choice for the role, and his evaluations were met with great respect and appreciation from participants.

ABBA Secretary/Treasurer and International Committee Chair Carolyn Falgout, along with a group of ABBA members, were also in attendance, proudly representing the association. Their presence helped further strengthen ABBA’s relationships in the region and demonstrated the association’s ongoing support for international collaboration.
